If you report behavior involving discrimination or harassment and your employer responds in any adverse way, you might have a claim for retaliation. Under Washington law, “adverse” means unfavorable or disadvantageous. An employment action is adverse if it is harmful to the point that it would dissuade someone from making a complaint. If you feel afraid to complain of discrimination or harassment or if you have complained and are now being treated adversely by your employer, you might have a claim for retaliation.
